Estelle of Vineland has been a Doll Doctor for more than 30 years, restoring everything from antique and vintage dolls, composition dolls made of packed saw dust, American Girl Doll Repairs, dolls made of bisque, wood, plaster, papier-mâché, cardboard, cotton or cloth, rubber, and leather body ladies.  

           The Doll Doctor is a Montclair State Art major who was taught to appreciate the Fine Arts by family members.

                          Estelle has about 10 years experience in porcelain doll making and 25 years of Doll Restoration. She also learned how to pour doll molds, how to string limbs and other parts together and how to refine dolls. 

           Estelle takes great pride and joy in styling wigs, resetting eyes, restringing and reconstructing fingers, toes and other doll parts back to their original forms.  Restoration of Dolls is an art form that only years of experience can exact.

           Estelle also specializes in customized costuming, recreating period doll clothes from description or photograph. She cleans, and repairs porcelain and antique doll clothes using machine and hand-stitching, knitting, embroidery, crocheting or whatever method it takes for restoration.

           “I found that more than making new ones, I loved to restore the older Dolls,” Estelle said.  

           Having a passion for dolls, Estelle understands that it can be difficult for doll owners, especially for a child, to part with a doll even for a short time to have the Doll Restored. So Estelle of Rosebud doll hospital assures her doll owner that their dolls will be in good company in her care among other dolls. 

           “It’s a very personnel thing,” Estelle said,  “Every doll has another story. I think they carry on the character of the home.” 

           To help make doll owners feel more at ease about leaving dolls for Doll Restoration, Estelle provides them with background information and a piece of history on their dolls retrieved from volumes of doll books she uses to research the dolls. The information also provides the Doll Doctor with accurate and precise information needed to authentically do Doll Repairs and Restoration for antique dolls.
